Ever wondered how to make systems work for your business? It starts with understanding what they are—and I learned this the hard way...
I knew the advantages of systems... do the right work in the right order.
I went after a strange target.
The system to create systems.
Sounds nice. If I knew the system that creates systems, then I could build systems on demand.
Use them.
Get more done with less effort.
Unfortunately, when I started out to answer this question... I did not know what a system was.
So the system that creates systems?
Um. Yeah. Let's call it that I was stumbling around in the dark.
I set out to find the holy grail—a way to create systems on demand.
But at first, I was lost. Google didn’t help much either (this was pre-AI days).
I began to suspect that no one knew how to build a system to build systems.
Ok.
So it was a meta experience.. (the system to build systems)...
Not knowing how to build any system, let alone the system that builds systems.
Many hours in, I got a small breakthrough.
I started tracking what to do.
I was trained in documenting processes in Google Docs.
Each document laid out "what to do".
I stuck the links to the Google docs in a project management tool and started tracking my progress.
"Not started" to "working on" to "done".
It helped.
When I got distracted or interrupted (never!)... I could find what I had been doing quickly.
Not 6 minutes. 10 seconds.
And...
There was a continual sense of progress.
Not started.
Working on.
Done.
Each step a step towards the overall completion of the work.
The practice of tracking work done is not unique.
Add a tick box to the end of each Google Doc, and you have that.
What I noticed was that tracking the work being done was helpful, and tracking the work produced gave me a complete view.
Do this - tracked.
Get that - tracked.
Do these two simple things, and you will get an unusual result.
The ability to see.
Get the MagicBoards Software so you can have the system that builds systems too.
