Missing netball games and coffee beans showed me why visibility is everything in life.
My wife had to travel and I've been single parenting for the week.
The coffee beans ran out.
Netball was missed.
But the kids were fed, dressed, and where they needed to be.
Going from two parents to one just means some things have to be let go of.
We've got 3 kids - 16,14 and 11.
Without my wife, I had to be strategic about what did and what did not get done.
And so I went into MVP mode...
Yes, "Minimum Viable Parenting".
My minimum targets for the week:
- Are my kids fed?
- Are they dressed?
- Are they getting to where they need to be for the day?
I focused on dishes and laundry and did ok at the supermarket shop.
There were some casualties!
We were out of coffee beans this morning. Rough.
I thought I would remember after I went, and they said a new shipment was coming the next day.
I did not remember... (I failed to set a calendar entry or other reminder)
We also missed netball for my daughter.
Most sports had been cancelled due to the incessant rain in Byron Shire.
But the real reason... I failed to put her netball games in my calendar.
With a lot going on, it was easy to miss things I could not see.
Just like my strategic minimum viable parenting, your business needs a simplified view of everything happening.
That's what the Strategic Dashboard in MagicBoards provides.
Too many boards going on at once?
It's easily visible at a glance.
...From the MagicBoards homepage.
And if I have too many things going on...
I must let some go to free up the focus to complete the most important ones.
Yes, the culling can be challenging.
But it is better to know that I have three boards that will get completed rather than 17 because I got shiny object syndrome.
How do you keep track of everything on your plate—or are you missing your own "Buy coffee" or ‘Netball games’ at work?
