What do seasoned business owners systemize first?

What do seasoned business owners systemize? First, this is an interesting question that came up when I was studying this book here system ology.

Super cool.

David is an Australian as well.

And he's discussing, hey, what you document first.

And when you're building out your systems, he's got an interesting take on it.

He's like, Well, you don't need to systemize hundreds of systems, even though there might be 100 systems, there might be 150 systems, active in your business, perhaps it's more, perhaps it's less.

But that's an overwhelming task.

It's a lot of work to do.

And unless you're a very big business, which you are to get there by getting your systems in place anyway, that sort of level work just isn't going to give you the return on investment.

So what do you focus on? And the question came to me, Well, should you focus on the stuff that's working? Or should you focus on the stuff that's not working? And from my perspective, and I think David, definitely list this out in system ology.

The way to begin with your systems is to focus on what is working the identification of the critical systems that are active in your business right now that are working in your business right now.

He calls it as I do minimum viable systems, let's limit the number of systems and get them working before you begin.

To expand out further, there really is no point in going to create 5070 100 systems.

If you can't run the critical ones, effectively in the first place, like what are you going to do, you're just going to be propagating something that you don't know how to do, it'll be a waste of time, it is far better to even just get one system working.

And once you know how to do that one system, then you can expand from there, or you can pay someone else to do it.

So it's like, hey, I need this next system, I need this next system.

This is where to focus first to actually go, okay, what are my critical systems and David suggests that the optimal places to look for are the ones that bring in money like that are a really good place to focus.

Why because they're the critical ones for business.

Oxygen is what we require cash is what businesses require.

And so that is a solid place in order to begin, if you're not sure which systems to look at first, then choose the ones that get you customers or an even better place is to look at the ones that get your customers to come back and buy more.

Remember that usually, it is a lot more effective to focus on your current customers, and sell them more stuff.

And so that might be your optimal system to focus on.

First upside.

Okay, let's get how we get our current customers to buy more documented, let's get it out of the system.

And remember that a system is just a series of processes that give a defined outcome or in my language systems create results.

If you want some help with how to do this, if you'd like to document your first system or your 100 system, then head over to systemio.dev.

Most of you are going to find yourself in a place where you have a lot of undocumented unconscious systems and it's time to bring those out in the open to get them documented.

And get your team using them so that you can become dramatically more effective.

And get the results that you desire in business, whether that is to extract profit from your business while you still own it, whether it's to sell it, or whether it's for you to successfully continue your current business and begin your next venture.

Alright, that's all I got for you today.

I hope you're having an awesome day.

Thanks for tuning in, in this little episode as we look once again at the power of systems to create results.

I'll see you next time.
