Priming for Future Use? The setup for habitual success...

priming for future use is the key, the setup for habitual success.

Continuing on with the readers of this book, atomic habits could be called atomic systems have concluded that habits are just systems that are executed on a regular basis.

And James, this book is excellent.

If you need to start good habits and stop bad habits, it's definitely worth the investment into it.

But today, I was reading about an interesting idea.

And this prime the environment for future use.

And this was a concept that said that, hey, if you set up the environment in a way that it is easy to make the habit that you're trying to support, then it's much more likely that this will happen.

If you set it up that the habit is very difficult to do, then it's much less likely to happen.

And the underlying principle of this was from physics.

Anyway, what is physics got to do with habits?

And the interesting thing about physics is that it says that the path between any two points requires the least effort; what's the easiest path? That's the way that energy will flow.

This is the way of water down a mountain.

If you're into Taoist principles at all, you know that they're very much valued.

Water is a principle, and water will always follow the easiest path.

But the idea of priming the environment was to set it up so that next time you have to use it, it's right there.

This means that if you are using the TV, then put the remotes back in their right place.

If you are finishing with the car, put the keys back on the hook.

If you are looking to clean the toilet regularly, set it up so that the cleaning gear is right next to it.

And He actually had an even better thing.

This wasn't James's idea.

But He learned about this is like if you clean the toilet just before you have a shower, then that's the best time, so every time you'd have a shower, clean the toilet beforehand, you will religiously routinely have a clean toilet, and much better to clean the toilet and then have a shower than at any other time of the day.

What I took from this was very much the idea around clean systems that you need a clean version of the system that you then copy to use it.

If you don't do that, then when you come to use that system next time will be filled up with all the data from last time and is like, oh man, I gotta clean the system before I can use it.

It's much better if you copy the system and then work on the copy; leaving the original clean and ready for the next use make it easy for you and your teams to actually use the system, which is what you want.

Actually, that's not true.

You don't want to use the systems; I don't want to use the systems, I don't want to use the processes, and your team doesn't want to use the processes.

But what you do want is the results.

And the one advantage that systems have over not using systems is that it makes it far more likely that you will get the result that you're after in your business.

If you want some help around setting this up, head over to systemio.dev that is SystemIO.Dev and look at how to set up systems in the easiest way possible so that you and your teams can use them to get the results that your business needs to get.
