Lessons from this morning's surf session.

Welcome to this little video of this life.

My name is Tom Rolley from System IO, being out surfing this morning, you can see the board just there.

And look, the winds have been not great, the waves were not great, but my lesson was awesome.

Why? Well, my surf coach found out where I was like, Ah, gotcha, gotcha exactly where you are.

And then He shared with me one thing, and that one thing was that my hands need to stay down while my front leg comes forward.

Previous to this.

So I've been working on my back knee going down.

For 10 years, my back knee went down.

This was bad.

And I only discovered this when I actually had a private one-on-one lesson.

But I knew about that and have been working on that.

And then today, said, alright, what I want you to work on is that your back knee doesn't go down, your back foot goes down, and then bring your front foot forward, but leave your hands down until your front foot is forward.

That's like what he's like, yeah, leave your hands down until your front foot is forward.

So why is that? Well, your stability will go up dramatically.

And we went out into the surf.

And we practised, and I caught about 15 waves, three of which were done correctly.

My back leg came, my back foot went up first, my hands were on the board, and my front leg went there.

And then I stood up.

And I was surfing.

I was like, oh, oh, and eight to 10 seconds of surfing feels like a minute and a half.

It is a magical, amazing experience.

But the lesson that I wanted to share with you will two number one private lessons make a difference working one on one makes a difference.

They're only looking at me, they're only dealing with me, they're not having to then shift over to the second person or third person and deal with them.

That it's like not, I can see exactly what you're up to.

This is what you need to change.

The second thing is to build those hands forward until the front foot lands.

And his placement is stability, stability, stability, stability, and then from there, in a stable position, I can get up, and I can surf.

And we watched some other surfers, and they were doing it with their hands staying down until their front foots there.

And it makes them make it look graceful and easy.

I don't know how graceful and easy I was, but it worked.

And that lesson of stability is valuable stability is powerful.

Stability enables intelligence even from that position, that stable position I can intelligently judge how I should stand up.

And it's the same in business, particularly in backend operations, how you set up your processes and how you set up your systems, ideally, should represent stability.

And if you allow people just to do and design whatever they want, you will get a vast array of unstable system designs.

This means that only that person knows how they work.

This means that if they're sick, then no one can take over their work.

And I want to compare that to a consistent, stable design that can be used in marketing that can be used in accounting that can be used in taxes that can be used in fulfilment that can be used in optics, same stable design getting used across the board.

So in a pinch, let's say someone gets sick, somebody gets headhunted, or somebody quits.

Guess what you can cover far more easily because that system design is stable.
