But we don't have any systems! No. It just looks that way...

All right.

Hello, and welcome to today's episode, my name is Tom Rolley of System IO, I want to look at the common belief that business owners often have, which is that they have no systems.

They're like, Hey, Tom, I have no systems, we have no systems in our business.

And like, look, what you do not have is no systems, you have systems, you have stuff getting done, the work of your business is getting done somehow you just don't see them as systems, what you have is no documented systems, you have no documented processes.

And this is a big problem is the list leaves you with significant challenges, perhaps not in the very beginning of business.

But as you start to add more team and have more success, and more strain comes on, then the weaknesses in your approach begin to be exposed.

The problem that you have is that by not documenting your processes, you you leave your team to operate, just sorting out the problems themselves.

They have no standards by which to hold themselves, there's no accountability for you to look and say, Hey, you had to run this system in this system this week.

Can I see them you can't see them when there's no documentation.

When there's nothing written down when there's no tracking of the work.

This is a bad place to be.

This is very frustrating.

This tends to lead to you working very long hours very stressful experiences.

You're not making enough money coming home late.

Why? For your husband's like, Dude, why is the money? Your kids are disconnected? Because you haven't seen them from getting home after they've gone to bed? Are you getting home? 10 pm Your wife's husband's like, Where have you been? Did you? Are you seeing somebody else? The question marks begin to answer.

And this is all because you haven't realized that documenting your systems documenting your processes, knowing what results that they create is actually a critical part of your business.

Now, the interesting thing to me is that this is not a new idea.

This idea was at least documented heavily in the book, E Myth which came out in 1986 986.

Like that's, that's 40 odd years ago, 45 years ago, 35 years ago, live maths always a little bit risky to pull off, but let's call it to do 35 years ago.

So it's been around a long time and the franchise model on which that book is based on that was originated, perhaps most famously, but my McDonald's back in the 50s.

And why is that franchise work? Because they work on systems.

Now, you're actually in the 21st century, you have a different problem than McDonald's did.

McDonald's was just like, hey, how do we document all the systems? We're going to run our business that way? That's awesome.

That's not the problem that you face? You got two major issues.

Number one, how do you get your team to use the processes? And secondly, most critically, how do you get it that they update the processes in real-time, that they're actually having a living system of documentation, that if you allow your documentation to be static, and not be updated, then it becomes a snapshot in time of what was being done on that particular day.

But as time passes that, that documentation decay as it comes out of date, Facebook changes the way that their ad campaign is laid out, or Amazon changes the way that you update their back-end facility.

And suddenly, if you do not have a leaving system of documentation, then now you have something that is no longer that useful.

It's just not it represents something that is no longer true.

And so these two problems number one, how do you get your team to use your instructions? And number two, how do you get them to naturally update them so that they stay current, and they can cope with the rapid pace of change in the world? If you want help with how to do this, then head over to systemio.dev.

Let's not forget the dot Dev.

Thanks so much for tuning in tonight.

I hope you got some value out of tonight, begin to realize that you do have systems they are in operating what you do not have is documentation, and that this must become a critical factor for you in order to scale and grow your business in the future.

Thanks so much for tuning in.

Look forward to seeing you on tomorrow's episode.
