Where to focus for habit change, I'm continuing to read atomic habits, loving it, it's really cool book, if you're struggling with the results that you're getting in your life, particularly around your business, particularly around your body around spirituality, then this book is extremely powerful.

What is interesting in the current read that I'm up to is that He suggests that there is a place to focus for habit change, and he's got a model; his model is that your identity drives the things that you do, which gives you the outcomes that you experience.

So we've got an identity at the core, and when that identity is active, it will do things it will, it will take actions, and those actions will create outcomes.

This is a very interesting model.

Because it says that if you focus on the results, only now you can temporarily change those by focusing there, but the long term will not occur versus if you focus somewhere else, then you will get that naturally.

And He suggests that the place to focus is on the identity, that by changing the identity of who I think I am or who we think we are, that identity shift causes new actions to be taken new processes to be done.

And those new actions and processes which pretty much the same.

A process is an act, the written version of taking the action, you still have to do the action.

But if you do that, then you'll get an outcome, you'll get results.

And then, He suggests that the place to change is the identity.

What is really interesting, though, is how to do that, how do you change your identity? You see, many people are unwilling to change their identity let's take smoking, traditionally one of the more difficult habits to get rid of or shift.

And when people give up smoking and stop smoking, that is one thing, but usually, it doesn't last. Usually, it's only relatively short-term, maybe weeks, maybe a couple of months.

But eventually, smoking starts up again, versus the one particularly successful anti-smoking or no smoking is that they become a non-smoker.

So instead of stopping smoking, or having to fight against the desire to smoke because they are a smoker, those that become non-smokers in their identity naturally take different actions.

They, in this case, do not go to the shop and buy cigarettes; they do not burn cigarettes off other people.

They do not smoke cigarettes, they are a non-smoker, and their identity has changed.

Now it gets even weirder, though.

You see, James suggests that if you're having trouble shifting an identity, then where and how do you do that, and He actually says that the place to do it is the Daily Execution of a process.

And Chip after chip after chip after chip as you tap away, tap tap tap each process getting done.

Eventually, this reinforces the new identity.

This allows the new identity to grow and the old identity to fall away.

It helps if it's consciously done, of course, and the identification becomes well, I am a nonsmoker.

I am a marketer.

I am closer I am a surfer; I am a tennis player, I am a musician.

But the act of daily going after those processes.

Let's say it's practising a musical instrument.

If you do that daily, that brings up and creates and supports the identity of the musician and you become the musician.

And then the habit is formed.

And you naturally, as a musician, seek to take action, practice music and go and concerts each day.

And the results are that you are a great musician that you love playing that you perhaps have audiences and that people love sharing in that skill set that you've invested in.

But really, at its core.

What He suggests is the place to focus for true habit change is on identity.
